GTA 6 Moves Pre-Load Date Up From November 12 to November 10

Pre-load moved up by two days

Rockstar Games confirmed via its official Newswire that players who pre-ordered the digital version of GTA 6 can now start downloading the game starting Tuesday, November 10, 2026 — two days earlier than the November 12 date originally announced back on June 25, 2026.

On PlayStation 5, pre-loading unlocks at midnight in each player's local time zone. On Xbox Series X|S, pre-loading begins globally at midnight, with no regional variation.

Launch date is unchanged: November 19

The change only affects pre-loading — the game's official launch date remains November 19, 2026, when the game itself unlocks (also at midnight local time on PS5, as previously reported).

In practice, players who pre-ordered the digital edition now get 9 days to download the full file instead of the originally announced 7, reducing the risk of download congestion on launch day given the game's expected file size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Rockstar move up GTA 6's pre-load date?

Rockstar didn't give a specific reason in its announcement, but moving pre-load dates earlier is usually meant to ease server load closer to launch, giving players with slower connections more time to finish downloading.

Did the GTA 6 launch date also change?

No. Launch remains confirmed for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Only the pre-load start date moved, from November 12 to November 10.

Does pre-load work the same way on PS5 and Xbox?

Almost: on PS5, pre-load unlocks at midnight in each player's LOCAL time zone (players further east get it first). On Xbox Series X|S, it unlocks globally at midnight, with no regional difference.

Do I need to have pre-ordered the game to pre-load it?

Yes — pre-loading is only available to players who have already pre-ordered the digital version of GTA 6 on their platform's store.
