Edge magazine released its full 16-page GTA 6 feature for free on GamesRadar this Thursday (Oct. 29), delivering on yesterday's teaser about issue #430. Unlike the gatefold-cover announcement, the actual interview content is now live, with new details on mission freedom and the dedicated pedestrian-dialogue team.

Rob Nelson details how missions became more open

Rockstar North co-founder Rob Nelson told Edge that the team made "a very conscious effort to open things up where possible, without compromising the quality of the experience." In the mission where Jason and Lucia get caught in a police raid in a housing block, he said players will have "multiple routes out" of the building rather than a single scripted path.

Nelson also revealed that during a robbery getaway, the partner character can drive while the player shoots out the window — and when it all comes together (blowing out a cop car's tire, or beating a train at the last second), it "can feel like you're playing a scripted mission, which is totally new for us."

A whole team just for the city's background chatter

Senior VP of narrative Rupert Humphries revealed there's an entire team — including advertising and comedy writers based across New York, LA and London — dedicated solely to writing the "background noise" that makes the streets feel alive, the pedestrian chatter players hear while running past or, if they stop to listen, that still holds up as a full conversation.

According to open-world writing director James Horton, the goal is dialogue that "needs to wash over you when you're sprinting down the busiest street in the city, hearing snatches of a hundred different conversations as you go, and it needs to be totally convincing if you decide to stop and pay close attention to any one of them."

Why this matters for launch

The feature lands three weeks before launch (Nov. 19) and reinforces Rockstar's weekly Thursday reveal pattern, cementing GTA 6 as the most documented project in the studio's history before it even hits shelves.
